Configure what the assistant should do when an outbound call reaches detected voicemail: leave a configured message or stop without leaving one.

Set the message

  1. Open the assistant’s Call Settings.
  2. Find Voicemail → Message.
  3. Enter a short message that identifies the business and gives the recipient a useful next step.
  4. Wait for the setting to save.
  5. Publish the assistant.
For example: “Hi, this is Acme Services following up on your enquiry. Please call us back at your usual Acme contact number.” Use the correct callback number when writing your final message. To stop without leaving a message, clear the Message field, save, and publish again. The provider configuration uses the presence of a message to choose its voicemail action.

Test the recipient’s experience

Call a voicemail box you control. Let it reach the greeting and then listen to the saved recording. Check that the assistant leaves the intended text, avoids a long interactive conversation, and stops appropriately. Repeat with an empty Message field to verify the alternative behavior. A transcript or “completed” status alone does not establish what the recipient’s mailbox recorded.

Understand the boundary

Voicemail detection is managed by the voice platform. A detection-related API flag is not a promise that detection is disabled or enabled for an individual call; the current Voice Settings reference explains that distinction. A transfer destination’s voicemail behavior is configured separately on the transfer tool. Changing the assistant’s outbound voicemail message does not configure a transferred call’s fallback.

If the result is wrong

Confirm the correct assistant handled the call and that the message was published. Capture the call ID and the observed mailbox result. If only some mailbox greetings fail, include those examples when asking support to investigate detection.
